Description

Rise early! “It is the early bird that catches the worm,” Mark Twain once said. On the bay side of Galveston Island State Park in Texas, you can see these Great Blue Herons in the morning sun hunting for breakfast. The black crown of their head and the long thin black plume on top add to their elegance. This bird is made of lots of layers of paper! I used layers of patterned gray paper, cut into small strips to make each little feather. Iris’s grow wild and lanky in this park, and these little pops of purple among the tall wetland grasses were a must to include.
